Miles Bjornstam is a democrat and an atheist. He is loved by the children and hated by the adults of Gopher Prairie.
Olaf Bjornstam
He is the son of Bea and Bjornstam. He dies of typhoid.
Erik Valborg
Erik is the son of a Swedish farmer. He is the assistant of Nat Hicks the tailor. He looks like a Greek God, dresses well, is very polite and has ambitions to become a fashion designer.
Dr.Westlake
Dr.Westlake is a senior doctor. He is jealous of the Kennicotts.
He loves to read books.
Mrs. Westlake
She is a jealous woman and spreads rumors about Carol.
Dr. Mc Ganum
He is the son-in-law of the Westlakes.
Dr. Terry Gould
Terry is another doctor in the town. He marries Rita Simmons.
Rita Simmons
She is the daughter of one of the owners of the Bon Ton store. She is a member of the Jolly Seventeen.
The Dawsons
They are the richest people in Gopher Prairie. Dawson is a moneylender.
The Elders
Jack Elder owns the planning mill, the Minniemashie House and a large share in the Farmer's National Bank. He loves hunting. Mrs. Elder is a member of the Jolly Seventeen and is considered to be a good sport.
Ezra Stowbody
He is the president of the Ionic Bank. He is considered to be a troglodyte because of his hatred for modernization.
Ella Stowbody
Ella is the daughter of Ezra Stowbody. She studied singing and oratory for a year and is considered to be a professional reciter by her friends.
Fern Mullins
She takes the place of Vida in the school as a teacher. Her reputation is ruined by Cy Bogart and she is forced to resign from school.
Lymn Cass
He is the owner of the flourmill.
