SISTER CARRIE

Theodore Dreiser

Dreiser, Theodore (1871-1945) - An American editor and
novelist known as a leading exponent of American naturalism.
Sister Carrie (1900) - Dreiser’s first novel is the darkly realistic
story of Carrie Meeber’s futile pursuit of happiness in 1890’s
Chicago and New York. A controversial book, it was initially
thought to be an immoral and obscene work. Today, Sister Carrie
is considered by many to be Dreiser’s finest novel.
