Vergil Gunch - Babbitt's friend at the club, he is very influential. He is Zenith's largest coal dealer, leader of the Good Citizen's league, and president of the Booster's club.

William E. Enthrone - the wealthy co-member of Babbitt in the Sunday school committee, he is president of the First State Bank of Zenith.

Eddie Swanson - Manager of a large automobile agency, he is Babbitt's friend and fellow club member.

Louetta Swanson - Eddie's charming but flirtatious wife. Babbitt tries to flirt with her but Louetta does not encourage him.

Lucas Prout - One of Zenith's wealthy manufacturers, he succeeds to the post of Mayor with the help of Babbitt's successful campaigning.

Ed Overbrook - a small businessman and an old classmate of Babbitt who desires to improve his social position by befriending Babbitt.

Ida Putiak - a young and charming manicurist working in a hair saloon. Babbitt tries to charm her by taking her out on a date.

Henry T. Thompson - Babbitt's imposing father-in-law and partner in his real-estate business.
