Minor Characters

Hortensio

One of BiancaÂ’s many suitors. He poses as her music tutor and hopes to win her affections, but fails. He is the one who introduces Petruchio to Katherine.

Gremio

An older gentleman and HortensioÂ’s friend. He is another of BiancaÂ’s suitor. He criticizes Katherine and says that any man who marries her must be a devil, for he will be married to hell.

Tranio

LucentioÂ’s servant. He disguises himself as Lucentio at the request of his master. He is jovial person and a faithful servant.

Christopher Sly

A drunken tinker who has poor taste, but claims to associated with "Richard Conquerer".

Biondello

LucentioÂ’s servant who shows great loyalty to his master.


Grumio

PetruchioÂ’s servant. He plays the part of the fool to add humor to the play.

Curtis

Another of PetruchioÂ’s servants.

Pedant

An older fellow who is persuaded to play the part of LucentioÂ’s father, Vincentio.

The Lord

A bored, rich nobleman. He discovers the drunken Sly outside the Alehouse and decides to play a practical joke on him to amuse himself.
