Example     Solve 2 x + 10 < 3 (x +5) , x Î R. Graph the                    solution set.

Solution :     2 x + 10 < 3 x + 15

2 x - 3 x < 15 - 10

- x < 5

x > -5 . . . ( on multiplying by -1)

Example     Solve 7 £ 4 x + 2 £ 12, x Î R. Graph the                    solution set on the number line .

Solution:     7 £ 4 x + 2 £ 12

-2 - 2 -2 . . . (subtracting - 2 throughout)

5 £ 4 x £ 10

Dividing by 4 throughout,

Example     Graph the set of x such that -1 £ x £ 2 and x is an                     integer

Solution :     { x | -1 £ 2, x is an integer }

Example     Graph as indicated

1) Graph the set of x such that x ³ 2

2) Graph the set of x such that x > 3

3) Graph the set of x such that x < 3

4) Graph the set of x such that x £ 2

Solution :    1) { x | x ³ 1 }

2) { x | x > 3 }

3) { x | x < 3}

4) {x | x £ 2}
