Example Find two other points on the line that passes through (1,3) and sketch if the slope (I) 2 and (II) -5/2

Solution :

I)       Slope m = 2 and point (1,3)

2 = (for every 2 up go 1 to the right )

i.e. we increase x by 1 and y by 2

Thus we get (1 + 1 = 2, 3 + 2 = 5) = (2,5)

or 2 = (for every 2 down go 1 to the left)

i.e. we decrease x by 1 and y by 2

Thus we get (1-1 = 0, 3-2 = 1) = (0,1)

Hence the other two points on the line through (1,3) are (2,5) and (0,1)
