Different forms of a straight line

1) The slope point form

The equation of a line passing through the point (x1, y1) and having the slope m is y - y1 = m (x - x1)

2) The two points form

The equation of a straight line passing through points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) where x1¹ x2 is

or

3) Slope-intercept (or y- form)

The equation of a line having slope m and making an intercept c on the y axis is y = mx + c

4) Double Intercepts form

The equation of a line making intercepts 'a' and 'b'(a ¹ 0,b¹ 0)

on the x and y - axis respectively is

5) Normal form

The equation of a line whose normal i.e. perpendicular from the origin to the line has length 'p' and its inclination with positive of x-axis is a is x cos a + y sin a = p.
