3.4 The French Revolution

Whenever society or the political conditions therein get vitiated or muddled, the people become highly dissatisfied. Elements for the explosion of the revolution are generated. Only a spark is required to blow up everything, and the excuse for it can be a very significant one. Chalean Briands observes in this matter: "The French Revolution sprang from the combination of intellectual ferment and material grievances, and it was the intellectual ferment that made the material grievances more fiercely resented."

This Revolution took place for the regeneration of society and to reform the conditions of the commoners. The French Revolution broke out as a result of the interaction of varied issues - political, social and economic factors. All administrative functions were centralized in the hands of the king who was answerable only to god. The Word of the King was the law of the land, and absolutism was quite popular in France. At one time, absolutism was quite popular in France.
