Carol then makes her guests play a game. The shoes of the guests are the sheep and Juanita and Carol are the shepherdesses. The hall is the pen where the sheep are guarded. The guests are the wolves who would try to get the sheep. The lights are turned off and the game begins. Carol turns on the lights after a little while. Most of the guests are found sitting close to the wall. Only Kennicott, Guy Pollock, Haydock, Julius Flickerbaugh and Rita Simons are found in the arena. Everyone is shaken up but they look as if they had enjoyed themselves. Carol then makes them wear the paper costumes for the masquerade. She in the meantime disappears only to reappear within ten minutes dressed regally in trousers and a coat of green brocade edged with gold. She makes the guests hold a mock concert.

She then serves Chinese dinner. The guests relish the food. Carol secretly assures Kennicott that she did not spend much. Kennicott appears to be very proud of his wife. The guests depart after thanking Carol and Kennicott for the most wonderful party. The Dauntless publishes a write up about the party. The next week Chet Dashaway holds a party in the usual fashion of Gopher Prairie complete with the usual stunts.
